Educational Technology Philosophy

            I believe that technology should be a very important part of every elementary school classroom. Technology is a big part of the world that we live in and it should be vital to get students acquainted with technology at an early age. Technology should not completely   replace the important live interaction between teacher and student. The technology should be used to help facilitate the learning process. The technology in the classroom should be used to enhance lessons and not over complicate them. If  students can use technology to learn, they will be learning important skills. Students should also have the opportunity to use the technology hands on, to fully understand how it works.

            A very important technology that students in primary grades need to learn to use is the computer. It would be ideal for each classroom to have a few computers located directly in the room. If that is not possible for the teacher to have computers in their room, having a computer lab in the school would be good. Skills such as turning the computer on and knowing how to log on properly are very important for students at this age to master.  Students can use interactive games that can assist them in important content areas such as math and reading. There are a  lot of age appropriate computer games that teachers can access on the web for their students to play.  Having  students play educational games at school could encourage students to do the same at home if possible.

            Teachers using projectors which are hooked up to their computer could benefit students because they can display just about anything on the screen so their class will be able to view. Teachers can display pictures, and videos from the web using the projector.  Teachers can also demonstrate tasks on the computer before students attempt to do them by themselves.

            Teachers should try their best to use technology as much as possible in the classroom. Their students will benefit from their use of technology in the classroom and later in life. I hope to be able to use a variety of technology to assist my students in their learning and development.
